Everyone has dreams and goals, right? But so many of us are afraid to follow through or start them. Do you ever stop to wonder why? Some might say it’s a lack of motivation or time. Others may say they already have so many other commitments. What if I told you it’s all in your mindset?
I’m sure you’ve talked yourself out of starting or following through on your dreams and goals. I’m sure you’ve come up with a million excuses as to why you can’t commit to those dreams. But here’s the thing; if you can talk yourself out of it, you CAN talk yourself into it. Remember it is all about your mindset!
Think about it this way. How many times have you said, why me? But you’ve said it in a negative way. Where you should be saying why NOT me?!?! What is the biggest thing holding you back? It’s not your family, friends, job, lack of time: it’s you, and you alone. Your mindset is saying…stay in your comfort zone! And let’s be honest, we all have a comfort zone. Why do most people stay in their comfort zone? Is it because they’re afraid of what other people will think when they step out and go after those goals? Or maybe it’s because, like you, they are afraid to fail. But are you really afraid to fail or are you more afraid that everyone will think you’re a failure? What people think of you and the risk you do or do not take should have no influence on your ability to step out of your comfort zone to make that commitment to yourself.
That’s right friends, this coming new year is when you make that commitment to achieve that goal! So right now, at this moment, write your goal and put it somewhere you will see it every day. It doesn’t matter what the goal is. It can be as simple as traveling to a new city, training for your first 5k, or training for your 30th half marathon. Maybe it’s as simple as spending every Sunday outside. It really doesn’t matter what your goal is because the plan that you are making to achieve that goal is the commitment you should be concerned with. Make it, write it down, look at it, ask yourself why not me? Today is the day that you take the first steps to that commitment. And I guarantee you that day by day, week by week, month by month, you are stepping closer and closer to going from aspiring to achieving.
In 365 days from now, will you be sitting on the couch reading about someone else’s ambitious and inspiring, goal-getting adventurous lifestyle, and how that person achieved all of the goals that they set out to achieve in a year? Or will you be looking at your own list saying “Damn, look at all I’ve done... Look at all that I accomplished for me because I kept that commitment to myself to spend 2019 outside of my comfort zone”! So, which one will you be choosing tomorrow: Why me? Or Why NOT me?
